Employment Visa – Under current Hong Kong Immigration requirements, a foreign national (including PRC nationals), except one with permanent residency/dependent visa status in Hong Kong, must secure an employment visa prior to commencing work in Hong Kong.
Dependent Visa – This visa allows accompanying dependent family members (i.e. spouse and un-married children under 18 years old) to reside, study, and work* in Hong Kong.
*Under current immigration policy, dependents of training visa holders may not work in Hong Kong.
Employment (Investment) Visa – Under current Hong Kong Immigration requirements, a foreign national, except one with permanent residency/dependent visa status, must secure an employment visa prior to commencing work in Hong Kong. While an employment visa is applicable to employees who wish to work in Hong Kong, an employment (investment) visa is applicable to business owner/shareholder of a company who wishes to manage their business in Hong Kong.
Training Visa – This visa allows students or employees of an affiliate entity to receive training on a short-term basis in Hong Kong. The main purpose of this program is to allow students/employees to acquire special skills and knowledge not available in his/her home country/territory of domicile. Upon completion of the training in Hong Kong, the applicant must return to his place of origin to continue his studies/employment.
Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents and Professionals (“Admission Scheme”) – Mainland Chinese nationals residing in China should apply for employment/training visas under the Admission Scheme in order to work/receive training in Hong Kong.
Change of Employment – Hong Kong employment visas are employer specific. Prior approval from the Hong Kong Immigration Department is required before an employment visa holder commence work for a new employer in Hong Kong.
Capital Investment Entrant Scheme (“CIES”) – Foreign nationals wishing to reside in Hong Kong may apply for a residence visa under the CIES, provided they have net assets of not less than HK$10 million in the two-year period before the application, and that they will/have invest(ed) not less than HK$10 million in specified financial assets in Hong Kong.
Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (“Quality Migrant”) - This scheme is quota-based and its objective is to attract highly skilled or talented persons to enter and remain in Hong Kong. The applicant is not required to secure a job offer in Hong Kong.
Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (“IANG”) – Foreign nationals (including PRC nationals) may apply for an employment visa under the IANG upon obtaining a degree or higher qualification in a full-time and locally accredited programme in Hong Kong. The visa is extendable provided the applicant remains employed in a job that is normally taken up by degree holders, and that the remuneration package is set at a market level.
Working Holiday Scheme – This scheme allows foreign nationals of participating countries (i.e. Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Japan, and New Zealand) to stay in Hong Kong temporarily for holidays, and to take up short–term employment and/or enroll in a short educational course during their stay in Hong Kong. The applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age.
Prolonged Visitor’s Visa – While parents#, common-law partners, or same-sex partners are not eligible to apply for dependent visas, the prolonged visitor’s visa option might be available to these types of persons if they wish to accompany their child/partner (normally an employment visa holder/residence visa holder under the CIES) to stay in Hong Kong. The prolonged visitor’s visa application must be supported by evidence of strong relationship ties between the sponsor and the applicant.
# Parents of Hong Kong permanent residents are eligible to apply for a Hong Kong dependent visa, sponsored by their Hong Kong permanent resident child.
Right of Abode (Permanent Residence) (“ROA”) - A foreign national (including PRC nationals) is eligible to apply for the ROA in Hong Kong after ordinarily residing in Hong Kong for a continuous period of at least 7 years.
